EBC's Top Tips for Passing RTW first time:

1. Lay the document on a plain flat surface

2. Take a photograph of the physical document, not a photograph of a copy/photograph of the document

3. Take the photograph under natural light (artificial light can cause glare/shadows)

4. Make sure that the entire document is shown (all 4 corners are visible)

5. Make sure all text on the photograph is legible with no blur

6. Use the guidelines on-screen to line-up the photograph and MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) at the bottom of the passport.

The candidate will be issued with a unique invite link to provide a photograph of their identity document and a liveness selfie to confirm that their face matches the ID provided. The process is conducted via an IDSP who are certified to provide RTW checks by the UK government.

The RTW link should be completed on a device that has a camera. They will be asked to take a photograph of their identity document, this should be their passport.

They get 3 opportunities to take a good quality photograph. They should ensure that they take this under natural light, on a plain background. The portal will show them guidelines on where to line up their passport photograph and MRZ (machine readable zone) sections. There should be no blur or glare on the identity document, all four corners should be visible and all text legible.

The next step is to take a liveness selfie. Again, the portal will show guidelines, this time on where to line up their eyes and the centre of their face. The candidate gets 3 chances to take a photograph that they are happy with.

If the candidate has a non-UK passport, they will also need to enter their e-visa share code, to confirm their right to work in the UK.

Once this is done, the check will be complete.
