Basic DBS
Basic DBS have a 14 day TAT - though results are often returned more quickly than this, often the same day! If the result is not present after 14 days have passed, the candidate can call the DBS on 0300 0200 190, quoting their e-reference number, and ask for an update.
Basic DBS have 4 stages, and EBC will update the check when it passes to the next stage.
Enhanced DBS
Enhanced DBS can be completed very quickly, but some checks take 4-6 weeks and occasionally longer than this. Stage 4 of an Enhanced DBS is where the check is sent to local police force(s) to undertake further checks. The DBS advise that if an Enhanced has been at Stage 4 for 60 days (8 and a half weeks), then it can be escalated. This can be done via the DBS tracker, or by calling the DBS. The escalation can be performed by the candidate, or a DBS signatory (EBC).
EBC review and monitor all Enhanced DBS applications 60+ days, checking them, and escalating as soon as the DBS tracker provides the opportunity to do so.
